Looked Over, But Not Over-looked!

Updated: Dec 17, 2019

What Grace

I love this picture of God’s Grace

Joshua son of Nun secretly sent out from Shittim two men as spies: “Go. Look over the land. Check out Jericho.” They left and arrived at the house of a harlot named Rahab and stayed there. Joshua 2:1 (MSG)

A woman who is created in the image of God.

A woman who was once a baby girl, growing toddler, blooming adolescent, reckless teenager and now a disreputable woman.

One woman in all the city of Jericho...

Who lived in the city wall...

Who sold herself to men...

Who still, being deliberately made in the image of God, was pursued by her very Creator...

....WHO had her existence all planned out before time began...

....WHO had every detail of her life written out before any one event came to be...

...and one particular event in her life was Sovereignly orchestrated to be a clear demonstration of God’s Grace and the faith that follows.

...not based on

her heritage,

her occupation,

her skills,

her personality,

her track record,

her world-view,

her world’s view,

her “world.”

But all based on God’s Grace

She was chosen

She was given a second chance.

She trusted her Creator

She was changed.

Now she is acclaimed:

Because God’s Grace does not overlook.

Because God’s Grace touched even her...

Hebrews 11:31  By an act of faith, Rahab, the Jericho harlot, welcomed the spies and escaped the destruction that came on those who refused to trust God. Jm 2:25 The same with Rahab, the Jericho harlot. Wasn't her action in hiding God's spies and helping them escape—that seamless unity of believing and doing—what counted with God?

And God offers the very same with you and me.

No matter our track record.  No matter our greatness or lack thereof.  No matter what...

Romans 5:8 (MSG) But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.  —>Looked over...  (Completely seen as we really are)

BUT...                      —>Not over-looked...    (God sacrificed His own Son so we could be saved from ever being overlooked, discarded, based on our own “track-record.”) 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (MSG) Anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. ~~~~~~~~ What are your thoughts over these Truths? What specifically does this Truth do for you today? How does this Truth change your current perspective on your world? Your life? Your future? What “next step” do you sense God inviting you to take today?  What difference will this “next step” make in your personal faith journey? Your relationships? Your anxiety levels? Your insecurities? Your outlook? Your peace?  Ladies, let’s be willing to be open, vulnerable and engage in this blog with one another.  You are not over-looked.  Amen.

I love this story. How beautifully it reminds us that he can use EVEN US.
