Why Grey Hair Does Not Keep You From Finishing Well

Leave Your Gospel-Legacy by Finishing Well

👉🏼🧑🏻‍🦳Old and Grey!🧑🏻‍🦳👈🏼

As some of you know...I recently turned the big 5-0. I have tons of grey heart and my body has much less energy and pizazz than it used to. Overnighters at the YMCA with a bunch of teenagers or sleeping on wooden bunks for a week of camper-counseling ⛺️ an energetic group of Junior-High girls is not my “cup of tea” nowadays. 🤪🤣

But just because I’m “old” and a bit “worn around the edges”🙃 doesn’t tell me “I’m no use.”

Those of us who find ourselves in this “season” of life often think this way and succumb to such “limiting beliefs” that need some tender-loving challenge.

God calls us to “finish well.”

He begins and he sustains and he finishes what he has begun in you. (Phil 1:6)

That is his perfect, guaranteed promise to every one of his redeemed children!

🙌🏼✝️🙌🏾

But we so often “peter-out” and justify our “slowing down” by saying “that’s life!”

Not so.

Old age does not equate “lesser.”

Jesus told his disciples, with reference to all us who would follow after, that we would do greater things than he, as he was returning to the Father so he could send us His Spirit. (Jn 14:12)

Greater in this passage is referring to the “extent”, “the multiplication”, “the expanded impact” of the Gospel, to the ends of the earth! Wow!

That being said, our age is significant to God in that each “season of age” has a Divine purpose to be carried out via the “masterpiece” that God says each of us ARE our WHOLE lives.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

The coaching questions for you and I are to consider are these:

  1. What does ‘finishing well’ mean to you?

  2. What might need to change in your thinking or actions so you could finish well as Christ so desires of you, for His glory?

  3. What could this look like for you in this season of your life?

  4. What may be holding you back from moving in this direction?

  5. What may be the next step God is inviting you to take today? Tomorrow?

By God’s Grace, I am determined to finish well for the sake of Christ, the Gospel and for those whom he died and lives for.

In my present season of life which offers me less energy, less physical ability, and less “full-throttle” thinking capacity🤪, I am not allowing those to hold me back from finishing well.

I am determined to pass the baton to the Next Generation...

👉🏼Through mentoring, coaching discipling my own 2 children in daily Gospel-living

👉🏼Through offering my coaching-journeys to others who want to fully live out aligned to their God-given design for greatest impact

👉🏼Through offering individuals and teams professional training in coaching-skills and mindsets that will multiply the impact of their present roles/ministries

🌍Just finished a coaching-training to 15 leaders serving in West Africa

📓Presently investing in a university student in coaching skills who is passionate for the Gospel to shine through her among her peers and work place

🧍🏼🧑🏻‍🦳🧍🏽‍♀️Ongoing discipleship/coaching/mentoring investment in my own 2 children who are also university students who want to make an impact for the Gospel at such a time as this.

How about you?

What does God want YOU to pass on to the Next Gen?

That the whole world may have multiple opportunities to hear, see and respond to the Gospel!

Have a “listen in” yo the heartbeat of an “old”, seasoned man of God who was determined to finish well....

He writes, ‘Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone… Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come’ (Psalm 71:9,18).

“Every generation has the responsibility of passing the baton ‘to the next generation’. Succession planning is a key part of finishing well.” -Nicky Gumbel

It has been said that it is important to pursue a Paul and train a Timothy, be mentored by a Mary and prepare a Phoebe.

Helping you live aligned to your God-given design for greatest Gospel impact,

Tami
